Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, usually consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court divided into two main sections, with a hoop at each end. Points are scored by making field goals, worth two or three points depending on the player’s distance from the hoop, and free throws, worth one point each. The objective is to outscore the opponent within a defined period, typically four quarters or two halves. The sport emphasizes skills such as dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive strategies. Basketball is popular worldwide, featuring various professional leagues, including the NBA, and is played recreationally at many levels, from youth leagues to international competitions such as the Olympics.
