Islam

Islam is a major monotheistic religion that follows the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who is regarded as the last prophet in a succession that includes figures such as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Followers of Islam, known as Muslims, believe in one God (Allah in Arabic) and the revelations received by Muhammad, which are recorded in the Quran, the holy book of Islam.

Islam encompasses a comprehensive way of life, including religious beliefs, ethical guidelines, and social practices. The Five Pillars of Islam are fundamental acts of worship that include the declaration of faith (Shahada), prayer (Salah), fasting during the month of Ramadan (Sawm), almsgiving (Zakat), and pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).

Islam originated in the 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula and has since grown into one of the world’s largest religions, with diverse cultural practices among its followers. The symbolism of community, guidance, and submission to the will of God is central to the belief system of Islam.
